Help & contact

Questions, ideas or something not working? Write to fractarium@ma-adler.de – please mention your device and iOS or iPadOS version if something goes wrong.

Which devices does Fractarium run on?

On iPhone and iPad with iOS or iPadOS 27 or later, including iPhone Duo. It is free on the App Store.

Why does it ask for access to my photos?

Only when you save an image or a video, and only to add it to your library. Fractarium cannot see or read your photos.

How do I zoom and get back?

Pinch with two fingers to zoom and drag to move. The chip at the top shows the zoom level – tap “Reset” to return to the full view.

How do I change the language?

In the app under Settings › Display › Language. Fractarium speaks English, German and Norwegian; on first launch you pick the language on the first page of the introduction.

How do I get from the Mandelbrot set to a Julia set?

Press and hold a point of the Mandelbrot set: the Julia set for exactly that point opens. The “‹ Mandelbrot Set” chip takes you back to the same spot.

How do I make a wallpaper?

In the export, choose “Image” and switch on “As wallpaper”. The picture then has exactly the pixels of your screen, with the fractal placed where the clock and controls don’t cover it (on iPad as a square that still fits when you rotate).

What is the exhibition?

A full-screen view without controls that lets selected fractals take shape one after another – for projectors, shop windows or museums. Start it with the button at the top left of the gallery; a tap shows “End”. The screen stays on while it runs.

Does Fractarium collect any data?

No. It works entirely on your device and never connects to a server. Details are in the privacy policy.

Configuration via MDM

Schools and organizations can preconfigure Fractarium through their MDM (Managed App Configuration, com.apple.configuration.managed). It only reaches apps installed through MDM, not apps redeemed with a code. On devices configured this way, Fractarium never asks for a rating.
